InSAR as a tool for monitoring hydropower projects: A review

This paper provides a review of using Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR), microwave remote sensing technique, for deformation monitoring hydroelectric power projects, critical infrastructure that requires consistent and reliable monitoring. Almost all major dams around the world were built generation hydropower. InSAR can enhance dam safety by providing timely settlement measurements at high spatial-resolution. holistic view different techniques such as Differential Interferometry (DInSAR), Ground-Based (GBInSAR), Persistent Scatterer (PSInSAR), Multi-Temporal (MTInSAR), Quasi-Persistent (QPSInSAR) Small BAseline Subset (SBAS). PSInSAR, GBInSAR, MTInSAR, DInSAR quite commonly used studies. These studies demonstrate advantage InSAR-based over other conventional methods, which are laborious, costly, sometimes unachievable. technology is also favoured its capability to provide data times day or night, in all-weather conditions, particularly wide areas with mm-scale precision. However, method has some disadvantages, maximum rate be monitored, location cannot dictated. Through this review, we aim popularize monitor dams, an early warning prevent any unprecedented catastrophe. study discusses case from southern India capabilities indirectly health.
